"Accessible toilets

There is one accessible unisex toilet located in ground floor.

Guide dogs, assistance dogs and therapy pets are permitted in all areas of the museum and gallery.

Induction loops

The museum’s permanent loop is available in the reception area and in the Wolfson Room. Please turn your hearing aid to the T symbol. Or ask a member of staff for further assistance.

Lifts

Our lift provides access to the second floor and opens into the temporary exhibition space. If you require assistance please ask a member of staff who would be happy to help.

Emergency evacuation

If you have particular needs in the event of emergency evacuation, please inform the Reception on arrival.

Parking

There are several parking bays designated for the use of disabled drivers. If you have difficulty finding a car parking space, please go to main reception. In addition there is free parking throughout the grounds. You can also drop off and pick up from directly outside the Museum entrance."

"Bethlem Museum of the Mind is a museum focusing on the history of Bethlem Royal Hospital, its programme of care, and its patients.[1] Opened in 2015, the museum is housed in an Art Deco building shared with the Bethlem Gallery, which hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists who are current or former patients.

The museum's displays include work by artists who have suffered from mental health problems, such as former patients William Kurelek, Richard Dadd and Louis Wain. Another work is a pair of statues by Caius Gabriel Cibber known as Raving and Melancholy Madness, from the gates of the 17th century Bethlem Hospital. Other displays illustrate the history of mental healthcare.

The museum is a member of the London Museums of Health & Medicine.[2] "

Children are welcome to visit the Museum in the company of parents / carers, and their supervision and safety remains the responsibility of their parents / carers for the duration of their visit.

The Museum is open to walk-in visitors from 09:30 to 17:00 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

There is no need to pre-book your visit; just turn up anytime within the Museum’s opening hours! When you arrive at Bethlem Hospital’s gates, you will see the Museum building in front of you, just 150 yards into the site."
