Brief description

"The school was built in 1684 with funds bequeathed by the will of John Brabin, a local merchant. Local poor children received a free education, clothing and apprenticeships. In 1880 a new school was built across the road."

"The school's inscription, "Dose Disce Vel Discede," means "Teach, Learn or Leave," and its front door lintel bears the names of the first trustees."
