Access to the Woods and Pasture is via a lane which is rough and grassy and a Public Bridleway.

Brief description

Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area for Conservation owned by People's Trust For Endangered Species, and is the largest remaining ancient semi-natural woodland on the Isle of Wight.

Directions

From Newport, leave the town via the A3054 northwards signposted for Ryde, and remain on this road all the way into the village of Wootton, where you need to turn right at the traffic lights, just after the Service Station, onto Station Road signposted for Sandown.  A little way down this road on the left hand side is Packsfield Lane, which you need to walk down to access the Woods. On-road parking is available on Station Road.

From East Cowes Ferry, second exit at roundabout onto Well Road, A3021. Follow this road out of East Cowes and just after the entrance to Osborne House turn left at the roundabout onto Whippingham Road, which continues to be the A3021, signposted for Newport. Reman on this road until the roundabout with the junction of the A3054 where you take the first exit towards Ryde. Stay on this road all the way into the village of Wootton where you need to turn right at the traffic lights, just after the Service Station, onto Station Road signposted for Sandown.  A little way down this road on the left hand side is Packsfield Lane, which you need to walk down to access the Woods. On-road parking is available on Station Road.

From Fishbourne Ferry leave terminal on B3731 until junction with A3054 where turn right towards East Cowes. Remain on this road into Wootton Bridge and Wootton where you need to turn left at the traffic lights onto Station Road signposted for Sandown.  A little way down this road on the left hand side is Packsfield Lane, which you need to walk down to access the Woods. On-road parking is available on Station Road.
