Access is free and up a path in the field which is not always even and becomes more difficult nearer the ruins of the castle. Wheelchair access is not recommended. Climbing the ruins is dangerous. However the views from the castle are spectacular.

Brief description
Brough Castle is a medieval ruin which stands on the site of a Roman fort. It dates from the 11th century and was for many years the seat of the Cliffords.

Transport
Local transport from Kirkby Stephen is limited. However, Church Brough sits just off the A66 on the Kirkby Stephen road, the A685 on the left.

"Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour and Tearoom is immediately adjacent to the site, and has a small play area. It is not managed by English Heritage and is part of the local farm. Nearby Brougham Castle has toilet facilities and a shop selling gifts, hot and cold drinks and snacks."
