Brief description
"Run by a small but committed group of volunteers, Caerphilly Workmen's Hall is a community arts and entertainment venue in the heart of the town.
The stage in the main hall can be used for all sorts of events and shows, from plays to stand up comedy, from rock gigs to pantomimes. The hall can hold around an audience of around 400 and has lighting and sound equipment available for use.
In 1906, a group of local workers from the collieries began the welfare movement in Caerphilly. They established a welfare organisation within the town, donating a portion of their weekly wages into the fund. In 1925, Caerphilly Workmen's Hall was opened to the public, including a games room, a snooker room, a library and a reading room, as well as the main hall which hosted a cinema and entertainments.
In the 1990s, Caerphilly Workmen's Hall was granted Grade II listed status. The Hall is owned by the Coal Industry Social and Welfare Organisation (CISWO) and run and maintained by a hardy group of volunteers.
If you are interested in hiring the Hall for your event, we're always happy to talk about your needs. Please get in touch with us to have a chat or to arrange to come and have a look at the Hall.
We're always on the look out for volunteers, so if you would like to get involved, please get in touch. We especially need more technical support, so if you know someone that's good with lighting and sound, please let them know that we need their skills.
The main auditorium seats approximately four hundred people, which includes the use of the balcony. and has generous stage area and basic lighting available.
Behind the stage, there are two rooms available for additional space if you need changing facilities. These rooms are also available to hire individually.
