Accessibility:

There are no public car parking facilities in the harbour area, but there are some disability spaces in the pay and display car parks in Tenby (Multi Storey Car Park, Salterns Car Park and North Beach Car Park). There are toilet facilities on the slope down to Castle Beach as well as on Caldey Island in the village opposite the Post Office. A disabled cubicle is provided, fully adapted for independent wheelchair users.

The boat to the island is able to offer assistance to those who need it to get on board and dogs are allowed to be taken on the boat and are welcome on the island. The main attractions on the island are mostly accessible to wheelchairs users. Ramps are provided if necessary, and there is a tarmac road for easy access. Full details of the accessibility of each attraction can be found on the website under the ‘Access Statement’ section. Disabled visitors can be collected from the island pier, by telephoning 01834 844453.

Brief Description:

Caldey Island has been inhabited since the Stone Age and as a home to various orders of monks since Celtic times. It is currently owned by monks of the Cistercian Order. You can visit the island and see Caldey's historic Old Priory, the medieval churches of St David and St Illtud or walk up to the lighthouse with its panoramic views. In the village, you can buy the perfumes, chocolate and shortbread made on the island. The Village Post Office is also a museum giving an interesting insight into Caldey's history.

Please note that the crossings vary according to the tides; usually in the early morning the boats go from Tenby's Castle Beach to the Caldey Island short pier, but later on in the day amphibious craft ferry visitors (please see our photographs) to the boats returning to Tenby.  Therefore visitors are advised to telephone 01834 844453 to check on the latest situation on crossings.
