Level access to the main entrance is located in St. Werbugh Street. 

Visitor/Reception desk is located near the entrance and has a low level desk.

There are a number of accessible ramps within the cathedral interior.

The Refectory cafe has a ramp and level access.

Parking:

The Cathedral does not have its own parking area but the following is available:

Disability parking available in St Werburgh Street. NB. Please display Blue Badge with a restriction of four(4) hours.

Pay and Display car parks located at:

Gorse Street and Princess Street. Free for Blue Badge holders for four(4) hours after which a parking ticket must be purchased. 




Brief description:

Chester Cathedral is dedicated to Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary (since 1541) and is located in the heart of Chester city centre.  It is believed the site has been used for worship since the early Roman times.  The cathedral Grade I listed building is in the Norman style and dates from 1093.  The tower stands at a height of 127 feet (39m).  The interior has many architectural styles and is constructed of pink sandstone and has a high wooden beamed roof.

From Chester Visitor Centre :  Chester Cathedral is visible from the centre and is a 2 minute walk.

Wrexham is approximately 14 miles south of Chester and served by the A483 

Liverpool lies approximately 22 miles north of Chester and served by the M56

Opening Times:

The cathedral is open to visitors on the following times, however these are subject to change for weddings, concerts, exhibitions and events.  Please telephone the office for further details.

2023: "The Cathedral is open from 9.30am to 6pm Monday – Saturday and 9.30am to 5pm on Sunday. You may join us outside of these hours, where worship takes place.

Café 1092 in the Refectory:

10am – 4pm Monday to Saturday, 12 noon – 4pm on Sunday.

Gift Shop:

10am – 4pm Monday to Sunday.

Monday to Saturday : 9.00 - 5.00 pm

Sunday : 1.00 pm - 4.00 pm"

Admission The Cathedral is currently free to enter however from Friday 24th November there is a charge of £3.00 per person. 

 



Transport:

Coach drop off point for cathedral is at Hunter Street(off Northgate Street)

There is good bus network into and around Chester city and its surrounding area
