Accessibility:

There are no designated parking spaces at the centre. It is advised to park in the nearby 'Exeter' pub car park located 5 minutes walk away. There are no disability designated spaces in the car park or disability access toilets in the area. Within the house, access is limited by a step between rooms on the lower floors and stairs to the upper floors.

Brief Description:

Clare Cottage is the former home of the English poet John Clare. It has been preserved and restored and with some rooms in the traditional 19th century style The centre aims to both celebrate his life and share his work with visitors.

Directions:

From the A15 travelling north or south take the exit west for the B1443 Glinton Road. On reaching Helpston turn south into Woodgate. Travelling along Woodgate John Clare Cottage and Garden will become visible on the west side of the road.

The John Clare Centre has a visitor shop selling books and gifts and a café selling hot and cold food and refreshments, including homemade soup.  The village has a post office and grocery store and next door to the centre is ‘The Bluebell’ pub.
