Brief description
"Dewsbury Museum’s last day of opening to the public will be Sunday 6 November 2016. Thereafter it will close permanently to the public.
The Café in Crow Nest Park remains open along with the greenhouse, adventure playground, walled garden and all other facilities in the Park.
Red House Museum in Gomersal will close to the public in December. Its last day of opening to the public will be 21 December.
The Grade I Listed Oakwell Hall is closed temporarily from 31 October 2016 until Spring 2017 for investment in essential electrical works, but the Café, Shop and Country Park remain open as usual and the weddings programme is unaffected.
The other Kirklees museum in the area, Bagshaw Museum in Batley, will remain open.
Kirklees museums’ Huddersfield sites, Tolson Museum and Huddersfield Art Gallery, will remain open in the medium term until an alternative site for a new Huddersfield Museum and Gallery is identified.
The council took the decision to close Dewsbury Museum in Crow Nest Park as part of a wider re-organisation of the museums Service that will see the council save £531,000. The collections from the museums will be moved into storage whilst officers consider how items can be displayed in future, for the benefit of the people of Kirklees. The council will now start the process for gathering expressions of interest to take over the running of the buildings. An information pack will be made available by the end of November 2016."
