Brief Description:
Cyfarthfa Castle was originally home to ironmaster William Crawshay II and, built in 1824, shows how dominant the ironmaster was over the town. The building now houses artefacts spanning 2000 years of Merthyr Tydfil’s history, including the first steam whistle, the first voting ballot box and dresses by Laura Ashley and Julien McDonald.
There are exhibitions on local porcelain, art by famous local artists and local social and industrial history. There is 160 acres of parkland including the Splashpad wet play area, playground miniature railway, sensory garden, bowls, tennis, fishing and woodland walks.
