Accessibility:

Free car parking for up to 25 cars is available on site, plus 2 blue badge disability parking bays close to reception. The grounds are wheelchair accessible. There are 2 portable toilets and a wheelchair accessible toilet on site. Assistance dogs are welcome.

"The 25 free car parking places are at the top of the lane 400m, although there are 2 blue badge parking spaces down at the site. We currently have 2 toilets, 1 of which is for disabled access. It is a lovely place to visit, serene and tranquil. There are level paths to the lawned area behind the Priory and both the Priory and Manor house are wheelchair accessible."

Brief Description:

Brinkburn Priory is a 12th century Augustinian church which has been completely roofed and restored. It is located by a bend in the River Coquet, it is reached by a scenic 400 metre walk from the car park. Parts of the monastic buildings are also incorporated into the adjacent manor house. The church contains Victorian stained glass windows.

Directions:

From Bamburgh via A1 (31.7m). Follow the B1341 for 4.8 miles.  Turn left onto A1 and continue on A1 for 21.8 miles. Turn right and continue for 2.3 miles. Turn right onto A697. Take the exit towards Pauperhaugh. Continue onto B6344. Turn left. Destination will be on the left.

From Newcastle upon Tyne via A1 and A697 (26.8m). Get on the A1 from A167 and continue for 3.6 miles. Merge onto A1 and follow for 14 miles. Take the A697 to your destination. OS NZ116983

PARKING

The car park is free of charge and located around 400 metres from the site and has between 20 and 25 spaces. Coach and minibuses are advised to contact the site ahead of visiting.

FOOD AND DRINK

The on site shop has a vending machine that serves tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

PICNIC AREA

There are benches on the grass area of the grounds where you are welcome to bring a picnic.

SHOP

The gift shop is located in admissions. This sells a range of English Heritage souvenirs and gifts, including ice creams.

TOILETS

There are 2 portable toilets, 1 of which is for disabled access, available on site.

DOGS

Dogs on leads are welcome across the site.

GARDENS

There is a large lawned area of 2-3 acres including benches and pathways.

There is plenty of room to run and play in our large open areas. Kites are welcome.

There are cafés and a tourist information office at Rothbury, and bars, restaurants, and bed-and-breakfast accommodation in Morpeth, which also has shopping, churches and The Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum. There are a wealth of attractions in nearby Newcastle upon Tyne.
