Brief Description:

Cannon Hall is a museum, park and gardens. It was built in the 13th Century and was owned by Gilbert Canun. It changed ownership several times and was then purchased by John Spencer in the 17th Century. It was home to the Spencer-Stanhope family, who were involved in the local iron industry, for nearly 300 years. The Spencer-Stanhope family sold Cannon Hall to Barnsley Corporation in 1951 and it was opened as a museum in 1957.
