Accessibility:

There is a pay and display car park located approximately a 5 minute walk away. There is slightly uneven ground across the site. There is an 80 metre tarmac path from museum and admission point, then five steps to the priory. There is a fairly steep slope in the outer courtyard. One wheelchair is available on loan. There are wheelchair accessible toilets in the car park. Assistance dogs are welcome. The entrance to the visitor centre has smoked glass doors which lead into a well-lit area, so visually impaired people need to be aware of the possibility of walking into the doors.

Please be aware that Lindisfarne is reached by a tidal causeway which is cut off twice a day. Please ensure you check the tide times before setting out.

Brief Description:

Lindisfarne Priory is a ruined medieval church which was built in 1150. It is steeped in history dating back to AD 635 when Irish monks settled in the area under bishop Cuthbert. In the museum you can find out about a Viking raid, the cult of St Cuthbert and the Lindisfarne Gospels.
