St Martin’s Church is a Grade II Listed Building which originates from the 11th Century and was rebuilt in the 15th Century. In April 1942 it was largely destroyed by fire during the Baedeker Raid on York. It was reconsecrated in April 1968 following a 7 year rebuild. It is also known as St Martin Le Grand and it has a clock which overhangs the street with a figure of a naval officer on it. It features stained glass windows and an ornate font. The south-western tower contains a ring of 8 bells which were installed in 1979. There is also a pipe organ.
