Accessibility:

There is an on-site car park available which has one designated blue badge parking bay. There is ramped access into the church and it is wheelchair accessible throughout. Motorised scooters are permitted inside the church. There are public toilets including wheelchair-accessible and baby-changing facilities in the parish centre next door. A hearing induction loop system is available and there are large print service books for the visually impaired. Assistance dogs are welcome.


Brief Description:

St Oswald’s Church was built in 1866 to replace the original 12th Century church approximately half a mile away (now a private residence). It is a friendly church which welcomes servicemen and their families from the nearby Imphal Barracks and also from the University of York. There is a church hall next door which is available to hire and a café serving refreshments.

From York via Fulford Road. Head south-west on Lendal Bridge/Station Road/A1036 towards Rougier Street/B1227. Turn left onto Rougier Street/B1227. Continue onto George Hudson Street. Follow B1227 until it continues onto Fishergate/A1036. Turn right onto Fawcett Street/A1036. Continue onto Fishergate. Continue onto Fulford Road/A19. Turn left onto Heslington Lane. Turn left.


From Deighton via A19. Head east on Main Street towards Distone Court. Turn left onto A19. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit and stay on A19. Turn right onto Heslington Lane. Turn left.
