Accessibility:

These almshouses are built at an angle to road raised up with terrace and stone retaining wall Onsite parking is for residents only. Some of the flats have level access into them, others have steps. There are several car parks close by in Castle Road, Dean Road, North Street and William Street, however blue badge holders are not exempt from parking charges. There is street parking on Oxford Street and James Street which is a disk zone and parking during the day is restricted to two hours.


Brief Description:

Built in 1836 these almshouses were originally called the Mariners Asylum. This is a grade II listed one storey building. Admission is limited to retired seafarers, their widows or dependants aged 50 years and over who have been residents of Scarborough for at least 10 years.

From Whitby via A171 (19.2m). Take Church St and Spital Bridge to Helredale Road/A171. Turn left onto Helredale Road/A171 and continue to follow A171 for 15.1 miles. Continue on A165. Drive to Castle Road/B1364 and continue for 3.4 miles until you reach your destination.

 

From Bridlington via A165 (17.2m). Follow A1038 to Scarborough Road/A165. Follow A165 to Victoria Road/B1364 in Scarborough for 16 miles. Turn right onto Victoria Road/B1364 and continue for 0.3 miles until you reach your destination.
