Accessibility:

The closest car park is at Marygate and includes blue badge parking spaces. There is ramped access into the museum.  The Museum is mainly wheelchair accessible except for the reading room and historic library on the first floor which are not accessible to wheelchairs There is a lift that serves all floors of the museum. There are public toilets including wheelchair accessible and baby changing facilities. A hearing induction loop system is in place. The gardens have several tarmac paths which are situated on easy or moderate slopes.


Please note that at busy times there may be a delay in using the lift, as only one wheelchair user is allowed on the first floor at one time due to fire regulations.


Brief Description:

The Yorkshire Museum was originally opened in 1830 and then reopened following refurbishment in August 2010 it is located within the Museum Gardens which houses the medieval ruins of St Mary’s Abbey. It has five galleries exhibiting rare animals, birds and fossils along with archaeological displays. Here you can discover all about Roman York, and also what York was like before the Roman invasion of AD71.
