Accessibility:

Most of Dublin Zoo is accessible to all, however due to it's old buildings some areas may be difficult to access. There are 9 fully accessible toilets situated throughout the zoo. A code can be obtained from staff on entry. Wheelchairs are available to hire at the entrance of the zoo, on a first come first serve basis. Assistance dogs are not permitted into the main area of the zoo.


Brief Description:

Dublin Zoo is Ireland’s biggest family attraction, with over 1 million visitors per year. Founded in 1931, it was originally supported by wealthy subscribers and wasn't open to the public. It is now home to over 400 animals including elephants, penguins, wolves, giraffe, zebra and many more. Daily talks and feeds show case the animals in natural habitats, educating visitors of all ages.

Directions:

Situated 4 miles SW of Whithall.

Heading south on Swords Road/N1 towards Iveragh Road. Turning right onto Synnott Place and right again onto Synnott Row and then left onto North Circular Road/R101. Continue following the R101 until North Road is on your right hand side. Take North Road and continue until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout turn right(3rd exit) onto Chesterfield Avenue where the entrance for the zoo will be on your right hand side.


Transport:

Bus services run along the R109 and then it is approximately an 11 minute walk to the zoo. Best travelled to by car.


Amenities:

Accessible toilets available throughout the zoo. (Code needed). There are a number of places to eat serving hot and cold food, as well as kiosks and cafés for lighter snacks and drinks. There are two gift shops selling gifts and sweets.
