Accessibility:

There are a limited amount of free disability parking spaces for blue badge holders. Most paths at the zoo can be accessed via wheelchair, although some have steep slopes and steps. The zoo does have an accessibility map to allow you to plan your route beforehand. There is a mobility vehicle that can be used at the zoo to allow for easier access in certain areas, as well as manual wheelchair hire for a deposit of £10. Registered assistance dogs are welcome. Accessible toilets are located throughout the zoo and are marked on the map.


Brief Description:

Edinburgh zoo was founded in 1909 by Thomas Gillespie. It was opened to the public in 1913, and is now home to over 1000 animals including the UK's only giant pandas, Amur Tigers, Polar Bears, Red Pandas, Snow Leopard, European Grey Wolf and many more.

Open all year round including Christmas day. April - Sept 9am - 6pm, Oct - March 9am - 5pm, Nov - Feb 9am - 4.30pm.

Ticket Prices: Adult £18.50. Child £14, Under 3 Free. One free carer per paying adult. Family tickets also available.


Directions:

Situated 5.6 miles E of Newbridge. Head E on Glasgow Road/A8. At roundabout go straight across/ 2nd exit and continue on A8/ST John's Road. The zoo will be on your left hand side, next to Holiday Inn.

Transport:

There are two bus stops situated outside of the zoos entrance, with a number of buses running from Haymarket, Waverly Station, Edinburgh City Centre and Edinburgh Airport. Nearest train stations are Edinburgh Waverly Station and Edinburgh Haymarket Station.

Car parking at the zoo is limited and costs £4 for admission (Free for blue badge holders).
