Accessibility:

Parking: There is limited Disability parking facilities in the cathedral grounds. Booking advisable: telephone its Visitors Department 01353 660344

Visit: Due to the age of the building there are uneven floors in some area.  The Octagon Tower and West Tower are accessed by steps only.

Cathedral: West and South doors are accessible by portable ramps which give direct access to the Cathedral interior.  All parts of the cathedral are accessible which also include Lady Chapel, the cathedral shop and Refectory Cafe.  The Prior Doors are accessible by a portable ramp.

Hearing Loop Induction system is in operation during hours of worship.  

Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas.

Disability toilet facilities are located in Processional Way.

Free wheelchairs are also available (limited numbers).

Photography permits - £2.00 is available for purchase.


Brief description:

The Anglican Cathedral of Ely is located east of Cambridge.  It has been a site of worship since 672 AD when an abbey church was built by St. Etheldreda. It became a cathedral in 1109 and is a Grade I listed building, built in the Romanesque/Gothic style and is renowned for its Octagonal Tower and Lantern.

Ely Cathedral lies 12 miles north of Cambridge, and 54 miles south east of Peterborough.  The city of Ely is served by the A10, A142 with road links to the M11, A1 and A14.

Online tickets must be booked before 5.00pm the day before planned visit and can be booked up to three months in advance.

There is no charge if you are attending a service, coming to the Cathedral specifically to pray, visiting on a Sunday, or before 9am and after 5pm, and there is a policy of "We will never turn anyone away because they are unable or do not wish to pay. Please discuss this with a member of the Admissions team."

Transport:

Trains run from London Bank Station (Northern Line) to mainline Ely railway stations and is a journey of approximately 2 hours
