Accessibility

due to its age, historical layout and the terrain, Fort Amherst is not accessible in all areas for all people.

Parking: accessible parking available at the visitor centre / café.

Toilets: accessible toilet is available at the visitor centre / café. Please note café closing times.

Tunnels: unfortunately, the tunnels are unsuitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.

Fort Amherst Grounds: please note there are steep inclines. Call 01634 847 747 for further information.

Access to Fort Amherst: accessible by car via Khartoum Road.

Brief description

Summer Opening Times (April to September)

Fort Amherst: 8.00am until 4.00pm

Café and Visitor Centre: 8.00am until 5.00pm

Tunnel Tours: daily tours at 11.00am and 2.00pm

Average length of Tunnel Tour: 1.5 hours. Tunnel Tours:

Adults – £6.00

Children (5 to 17) – £4.00

Family (2 adults and 2 children) – £15.00

Concessions (Students, 65+) – £4.50

Disabled visitors pay the standard admission and can bring in a companion for free.

School Groups Tours: £3.00 per child, all accompanying adults FREE

Tunnel Tour Groups:  if you are booking a Tunnel Tour for a group of 10+ people, we request that you book 2 weeks in advance. Tour Times: Tunnel Tours take place three times daily during our main season, at 10.00am, 12.00pm and 2.00pm. Please ring the office (01634 847 747) or email admin@fortamherst.com for information.

Grounds: Fort Amherst has 20 acres of parkland grounds. These are open daily, free of charge, from dawn until dusk.

April to September, Tunnel Tours are at 11:00am and 2:00pm every Monday to Friday and Sunday each week.

Fort Amherst is a free-to-visit site. The only charges are for parking, tunnel tours and additional events (free parking for visitors).

Opening times are seasonal. Please check tour times and closure notices to avoid disappointment.

Fort Café / Visitor Centre

We welcome you to relax in our friendly, light and airy Fort Café. Offering a selection of quality refreshments from tea, coffee and light snacks to hot meals and a children’s menu.
