2023: "There is a good amount of accessible parking immediately adjacent to the main entrance. Access from the car park to the entrance is flat.

Cycle Track/inner arena

Access to the track, the 5v5 area and the badminton courts in the centre of the track is some distance from the entrance. Access is not flat and is via a staircase or a relatively steep ramp.

There are separate accessible changing facilities and toilets.

5V5 Areas and badminton courts are in the middle of the track, so there is the potential for large amount of noise and distraction from other activities taking place.

First Floor 

The first floor is accessible by a lift located in the reception area. This gives access to the fitness suite, dance studio and track viewing area. There are a number of wheelchair spaces located at either end of the viewing area. There are accessible toilets on the first floor. 

Gym Access/Steam Room 

This has gate entry and has room for and is accessible to wheelchair users although access to the sauna has a small lip on the floor and is narrow."

"The Geraint Thomas National Velodrome, previously known as the Wales National Velodrome, in NewportSouth Wales, is an indoor arena located in the Newport International Sports VillageLliswerry. The Velodrome's facilities including a covered 250-metre Siberian pine track, a function room/dance studio, free weights room, fitness suite, a drug-testing room and a multipurpose indoor sports arena.

It has seating for 500 spectators. The Newport Velodrome hosts the Head Office of Welsh Cycling and Newport Velo Youth Cycling Club is based at the centre.

An outdoor cycle speedway track home of Newport Cycle Speedway Club is located at the Velodrome.

The Velodrome was used by the British track cycling team for its pre-event holding camps ahead of the 20082012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics.[1]

It was announced in August 2018 that the velodrome would be renamed after the UK's third and Wales' first-ever Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas.[2]

The velodrome will host the 2022 edition of the British National Track Championships.[3] "

"By Road from the West (Cardiff)

From the M4, Junction 28 exit onto A48 toward A467 Newport/Risca. At the first roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Southern Distributor Road. At the second roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Docks Way/Southern Distributor Road. At the third roundabout take the 1st exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. At the fourth roundabout take the 2nd exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. At the fifth roundabout take the 2nd exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. At the sixth roundabout take the 4th exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. Turn left onto Langland Way. Then turn 1st left, then turn right. You can then either go ahead for the Velodrome or turn right for the Pool and Tennis Centre.


By Road from the East (Chepstow)

From the M4, Junction 24 take the A48/A449 exit to Newport. Keep left, follow signs for City Centre and merge onto Ringland Way/Southern Distributor Road. At the first roundabout take the 2nd exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. At the second roundabout take the 2nd exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. At the third roundabout take the 1st exit onto Southern Distributor Road. At the fourth roundabout take the 3rd exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. At the fifth roundabout take the 2nd exit and stay on the Southern Distributor Road. Turn left onto Langland Way. Then turn 1st left, then turn right. There is free parking available for all of the venues at Newport International Sports Village."
