Accessibility:

There is a small gravel car park a short way from the wharf (look for the black and white waterway sign on the north side of the B4246). Access to the wharf is along a flat tarmacked road. The paths around the site are unused roads and tow paths, so should be generally flat. However, care should be taken.

The closest public toilets are in Abergavenny (SO298144) and they include disability facilitites.

Brief Description:

Govilon Wharf is on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal which passes through the village of Govilon. The wharf was created to cater for the coal, iron and lime industry in the area. There are walks and pathways through the area with information boards offering history on the site.

Directions:

From the A40 roundabout at Abergavenny take the second exit on to the A465. Leave the A465 at the first exit and follow the signs to Blaenavon and Big Pit (World Heritage Site). Keep following the "Big Pit" World Heritage Signs on to Blaenavon Road. Govilon Wharf is on the right shortly before the canal bridge.
