Brief Description:

Grenfell Tower was constructed between 1972 and 1974 in North Kensington in a mainly working-class housing complex.

On 14 June 2017 a fire engulfed the tower causing a substantial loss of life; the cause of the fire’s spread was attributed to the building’s recently applied exterior cladding material. The subsequent independent government enquiry opened a wide debate about the provision of social housing in the UK and the safety of buildings with the same type of cladding.
