"Facilities and Access

Open 7 days a week

We aim to make every guest’s trip memorable and enjoyable. We provide:

  • Free parking
  • One all terrain mobility scooter (available on request, please email enquiries@jimmysfarm.com to book in advance – we do only have the one so it gets booked up)
  • Baby changing in the Wildlife Park and Restaurant
  • Wheelchair accessible toilets in the Wildlife Park and Restaurant
  • Hand washing facilities in the Wildlife Park, public toilets next to the Farm Shop and Restaurant

We are a working farm so bear that in mind when preparing for your day. Bring your wellies if it’s wet so that you can have a good old stomp in the puddles!

Due to being on agricultural land we are limited to what materials we use to make a path. As such, we have pathways made of gravel, some made of tar and chip and some with a recycled mix. The physical aspect to the site is always on our agenda and we are renewing and re-coating paths all the time.

Pathways are made of rammed earth with uneven surfaces in Woodland Adventures. Wheelchairs and pushchairs can access the woodland as we have a sloped access however a larger special needs buggy may not fit on the paths like wheelchairs and pushchairs can.

If you have any questions regarding our pathways please don’t hesitate to get in touch before your visit enquiries@jimmysfarm.com

Our restaurant is a welcoming space for those who are breastfeeding and we have signed up to the Suffolk County Council ‘Breastfeeding Friendly’ network.

This means that as an organisation we are relaxed and welcoming to those that are breastfeeding and pledge to offer them a place to feed and access to water.

We recognise that a long queue into the park is not suitable for those with physical or developmental disabilities. In our new entrance block we have implemented a queue just for those with disabilities so that they can have fast access to our site, hopefully making their arrival less stressful.

Throughout the park you will find ‘Royal Association for Deaf people’ British Sign Language signs. We partner with RAD who send us signage to add to all enclosures, shops and catering outlets onsite. The signage has the hand sign for the name of the animal and encourages you to learn the hand signs as you walk around the park. It also stands to make those who sign feel included and represented; something we are proud to do."

Brief description

2025: "Welcome to our Farm & Wildlife Park

Open 7 days a week

Come and visit our farm like no other! It has come such a long way since we first set eyes on this old dairy farm on the outskirts of Ipswich, over 20 years ago.

  • We are home to so many awesome animals, from farmyard favourites to the more exotic such as Zebra or Crocodiles.
  • Visit The Lost Lands of the Tundra – home to rescued polar bear Ewa, Arctic Foxes and the UK’s largest pack of Arctic Wolves.
  • Our restored barn is a beautiful restaurant and coffee shop.
  • We host special moments, from birthday parties to weddings.

We look forward to seeing you soon."

"Jimmy's Farm is a British television series set in a working rare-breed farm, tourist destination and wedding venue in Wherstead, Suffolk. The series is produced Fresh One Productions and first broadcast on BBC in 2004. Owner Jimmy Doherty set up the Essex Pig Company, a rare breeds piggery on the outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk.[1] The drama revolved around Jimmy's previous lack of hands-on experience of farming, the financial struggles involved in starting a small business, and Jimmy's relationships with employees, friends and his then-girlfriend, Michaela Furney. Doherty was a childhood friend of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who gave him a loan to help get the farm started, and appeared in one episode of the series. The series was followed up with a one-off special, Back on Jimmy's Farm, and a second series, Return to Jimmy's Farm.

A new series called Crisis on Jimmy's Farm aired on BBC in 2007, featuring developments on the farm including the opening of Guinea Pig village, the making of Ferret Folly as well as the struggles of ensuring the extension of the lease and problems with Christmas hamper orders.

The first series of Jimmy's Farm was released on DVD in the UK by Revelation Films in March 2010."

"Jimmy Doherty (born 24 May 1975) is an English television presenter and farmer. Doherty is known for the show Jimmy's Farm, detailing the operation of the Essex Pig Company that he and his wife Michaela Furney own in Suffolk.

Doherty and the team ensured conservation was at the forefront of their decisions and created areas at the farm for nature to blossom. As well as a flair for farming Doherty holds a passion for non-native species and, with a great team behind him, the farm applied for zoo status to help endangered species further afield. On 5 October 2016 Jimmy's Farm was awarded its zoo license from the local authority and Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park was born. The first three exotic species they welcomed were ReindeerTapirs and Meerkats.

In 2016 Jimmy became the youngest ever President of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust a charity closely linked to his work and passions. In 2019 he became a patron of the British Beekeepers Association.[8] He is also the patron of the British Hen Welfare Trust.

In May 2019 Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park became accredited by the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) who represent the best zoos and aquariums in Britain and Ireland that pride themselves on their excellent animal welfare, education, and conservation work. In July 2021 Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park became the first recipient of the Rare Breed Survival Trust's new Rare Breeds Approved Associate accreditation.[9] This has been awarded in recognition of the farm's excellence in education about the importance of Britain's endangered native livestock and equine breeds and its work to conserve their unique genetic characteristics."
