Accessibility:

Blue badge parking bays are directly outside on Fore Street. The nearest car park with blue badge parking is on Duncombe Street. Approximately 600 metres away on the Promenade near to the water front is a disability toilet. There are three steep steps going into the street entrance of the building and further sets of steps between levels through the museum. The museum if contacted before visitor arrival will open a second door with flat wheelchair access. This leads to the kitchen, scullery, shop and garden area of the museum which are all on one level. Access is also available to the viewing gallery and a wheelchair accessible toilet. Using staff guidance and detours it is possible to access the museum shop and Heritage Centre. Stairs exist between floors with no lifts. Visitors not able to reach the upper floor are offered a concessionary admission rate.

Brief Description:

The building was once the town's grammar school and is now home to the Cookworthy Museum specialising in exhibits that display how people have worked and lived in the area over many generations. The museum holds a fascinating collection of over 16,000 photographs from the 1870’s.

Directions:

From the A379 or A381 travelling south follow the A379 Plymouth Road south into Kingsbridge. Go straight over the round-a-bout and turn south along Fore Street. The Cookworthy Museum is on the west side of the road near the junction of Knowle House Close.
