Accessibility:

Lampeter has three main public car parks; St Thomas Street offers three disability bays but no disability toilets, Market Street (next to the Sainsbury's supermarket in the centre of town) offers three disability bays and disability toilets and Rookery Lane offers no designated disability spaces but does offer disability toilets. The town offers some time-limited on-road parking along High Street and College Street.

The main shopping areas cater well to disabilities with drop kerbs and well-maintained, flat and uncluttered pavements.  The back streets tend to lack pavements because of the widths of the roads.

Brief Description:

Lampeter is the third largest town in Ceredigion and lies at the confluence of the River Teifi and the Afon Dulas.

The Norman castle of Pont Steffan, from which the town took its name, was destroyed in 1187 but still forms part of the university campus to this day. The university itself is the oldest in Wales and the third oldest in the UK after Oxford and Cambridge. It is now part of University Wales Trinity St David.

The town is a thriving centre for what is otherwise a very rural area, with many shops, pubs, eateries and supermarkets.

"Lampeter (/ˈlæmpətər/WelshLlanbedr Pont Steffan (formal); Llambed (colloquial)) is a town, community and electoral ward in CeredigionWales, at the confluence of the Afon Dulas with the River Teifi. It is the third largest urban area in Ceredigion, after Aberystwyth and Cardigan, and has a campus of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. At the 2011 Census, the population was 2,970. Lampeter is the smallest university town in the United Kingdom. The university adds approximately 1,000 people to the town's population during term time.

The Welsh name of the town, Llanbedr Pont Steffan, means "Peter's church [at] Stephen's bridge" in reference to its church and castle. Its English name derives from this, as does the colloquial Welsh name Llambed.[3] An alternative English spelling occurs as "Thlampetre" in 1433. [4]"
