Brief Description:
Llanpumsaint is a rural village 4.5 miles north of Carmarthen that straddles the Afon (River) Gwili. It is situated on an unnamed road that joins the B4336 north of Bronwydd Arms and the A486 at Llandysul.
The name Llanpumsaint translates to Parish of the Five Saints - the five saints in question, having established the church in the village in the 6th century. There is also evidence of a medieval settlement or castle at Allt Pant Glas just south of the village showing continued settlement in the area for many hundreds of years.
A prominent feature of the village is the railway bridge that spans the main road next to the Railway Arms public house. This carried the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line from 1860 to 1973 - when the line was closed and lifted.
There are also two chapels, a village hall and primary school in the village while the wider community is home to the Skanda Vale Hindu Temple/Monastery.
