Accessibility:

Llyn Brianne dam has a car park at the bottom of the dam where you can view the dam and spillway, as well as at the top of the dam, where you can see the reservoir. At the top car park there are toilets with disability facilities.

Brief Description:

The Llyn Brianne dam was constructed in the 1960s and 1970s and at 300ft (91m) it is the UK’s tallest dam. Originally the dam was built to regulate the flow of the river Tywi to support large potable water abstraction at Nantgaredig. In 1996 the height of the spillway was increased by one metre and a hydroelectric generating station was added at the base of the dam, which is capable of 4.60 megawatts of electricity.

The construction of the dam also created a tourist hotspot with activities including bird watching, fishing, mountain biking and walking.
