Brief description

"Mary Jones World is a state-of-the-art visitor and education centre which tells the story of a young girl and her 26-mile journey to obtain a Bible in her chosen language (Welsh) from Thomas Charles and the impact it had not only on Wales but the world. It uses touch-screen technology, text panels and interactive exhibits to help all ages enjoy and learn more details of this inspiring story. The centre is housed in a redeveloped Grade 2 listed building, which previously was used as the parish church of Llanyci"

South of Bala off the A494. "Ample parking is available. There’s no charge for parking, but please note that the car park is for visitors to the centre and café only and that the gates will be locked at 4.30 pm."

"Opening hours (peak season) April to September 2025, Wednesday to Sunday 10.00am – 4.00pm

Off-peak season: The Centre remains open to pre-booked group visits throughout the off-peak season and is also available for hire.

Please contact us if you wish to plan a missional weekend as we can help facilitate your event and offer accommodation options.

There is no admission fee to the centre, but we do welcome donations. There is a small charge for school groups. Contact us for more information."

  • The walk begins in Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, accessible by car (no public transport). The final section follows the shores of Llyn Tegid, leading into Bala. Walkers will arrive in Bala at the former home of Rev Thomas Charles which is honoured with a plaque on the outside of the building. Travel onwards to Llanycil, a site of Christian heritage for over 1,500 years, before arriving at the Mary Jones Pilgrim Centre, where a warm welcome awaits all visitors."
