Accessibility:

Parking is limited, and so those visitors who can walk down to the village from the car park on the left at the top of hill are asked to do so. It will take a 20 – 30 minute walk to get down and a 40 – 50 minute walk to get back up. Anyone unable to walk that distance, for physical reasons, are welcome to bring their car down to the village. There are toilets on site, including disability toilets for the cafe, and 2 inside the entrance to the visitor information centre inside the former chapel. Guide dogs are welcome.

Brief Description:

Nant Gwrtheyrn was an abandoned village in the 1970s following the closure of the quarries. The redundant houses, offices, chapel and shops constructed during the quarry’s heyday between 1860 and 1920,when over 2,000 men worked the granite, had fallen into rack and ruin. They were then thoroughly restored to provide a residential Welsh language Centre, which also welcomes tourists and day visitors.
