Free parking is available in Minnowburn Car Park on the Edenderry Road. Additional parking is also available on non-National Trust sites: at Shaw’s Bridge Car Park (A55), and at Giant’s Ring Car Park (Giant’s Ring Road).

Dogs are welcome, but it is requested that they are kept on leads.

Ground surface varies across the Minnowburn site. Most areas are either grassy or covered in gravel or bark. There are smoother paths by the riverside, as well as a path to the pond and garden. Slopes can be steep in some parts, and there are steps located at different points around the site.

Brief Description:

Minnowburn is a National Trust site located in South Belfast. It is a mixture of wooded areas and grassland beside the River Lagan. Minnowburn is well positioned as part of a walk along the river, or alternatively, as a shorter walk on its own.

Directions:

Driving: On the A55 (ring road) in Belfast, turn onto the Ballylesson Road at Shaw’s Bridge. Then turn East onto the Edenderry Road. Cross the bridge in order to reach the car park.

Walking: At Shaw’s Bridge, cross to the south side of the river. Minnowburn can be found by following the National Trust signs.

The 13D and 513 buses service the stops nearest to Shaw’s Bridge. The nearest train station, Balmoral, is 2 miles (3.2km) away from Minnowburn.

Amenities:

The nearest toilets are found in Malone House, which is located on the over side of Shaw’s Bridge. These toilets are open most days, 09:00-17:00.

There is a picnic area at Minnowburn. Food is available from a coffee and pizza van situated in the car park on Wednesday, Thursdays, and weekends.

Minnowburn is 1 mile (1.6km) from the Giant’s Ring, a henge monument.

Following the ring road East for 2.5 miles (4km) brings you to Forestside Shopping Centre. Minnowburn is 4 miles (6.5km) from Belfast city centre.
