Accessibility:

Staff help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At the customer Information Point in main concourse. There is a ramp for train access. There is access to all platforms via ramp and underpass with lifts to platforms 3 & 4. Anyone in need of assistance while traveling by rail can book in advance to make sure any help needed can be provided.

There is full access for wheelchairs into the premises, assistance is available if required. There are hand rails and seating areas for anyone with a mobility impairment. Fully accessible toilets on site, as well as disability parking spaces and lifts to platforms. Anyone requiring assistance while traveling should call ahead 24 hours in advance to discuss their route plan. Most trains have ramp access but some restrictions apply. There are also restrictions with mobility scooters , so please call 08457 225225 to plan your journey.

Assistance dogs are permitted.



Brief Description:

Newcastle station is a historic building and as such has undergone a programme of enhancements to improve accessibility. The station was formerly opened by Queen Victoria in August 1850, and now has over 13 million passengers going through it every year.  Every platform is accessible for wheelchair users, people with mobility impairments, parents with pushchairs and people with large luggage.

Directions:

Situated 2.1 miles from Gateshead. Head N on A167, and cross the Tyne bridge. At roundabout take first exit onto A186. Turn left onto St Nicolas street and  bare right onto Westgate Road, and then keep left onto Neville Street/A186 W and the station will be on your left hand side.

There is a cab office directly outside of the station, as well as bus stops. Buses run in and around the area. Car parking and designated disability parking spaces are also available.


Amenities:

There are coffee shops and food outlets at the station, with seating areas. There is also a public house/bar that serves food and refreshments, as well as WH Smith, Boots, Sainsburys and cash points. There are baby changing facilities available, waiting rooms, trolleys for luggage and Wifi.
