Brief description
2026:
"The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church is one of the 23 Eastern (Oriental) Catholic Churches in full communion with Rome. It is the largest Eastern Catholic Church and the largest of the Saint Thomas Christian denominations, with 5 million faithful. The Syro-Malabar Church is an Apostolic Church which traces its origin to St Thomas, the Apostle, who landed at Cranganore, Kerala, India in 52AD and founded seven Christian communities.
St Thomas was martyred in 72AD at Mylapore, near Chennai/Madras, India. The early Christian community in India was known as St Thomas Christians or Nazranikal, which means followers of Jesus of Nazarene. The word Syro-Malabar means Syrian Christians of the Malabar Coast (Kerala).
However, today the Syro-Malabar Catholics live, work and contribute to communities across the globe, with 35 Eparchies (Dioceses), 4 of which are located overseas. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church is very actively involved in educational and social development and healthcare provisions that affects the day to day lives of many, currently running 4860 educational institutions, 262 ecclesiastical and 2614 health and charitable institutions."

"If you are coming to Litherland church via M57 / M58, there is a new bypass road which may not show up on your satnav. At the end of M57 / M58, continue straight on to A5758 and at the second traffic lights (the first one is only a pedestrian crossing and right turn only) turn left on to B5422 towards Litherland. You will then come to a T-junction, now turn left and keep the right track and turn right at the traffic light on to Gorsey Lane. After about a mile you will see the Liverpool RC Cemetery on your left. A few yards further on, you can see a bus stop on your right. Take the right turn on to Kirkstone Road West just before this bus stop. Towards the end of Kirkstone Road West , you can see the church on your right.
If you are coming from Liverpool direction, when you go past the Litherland Tesco store which will be on your left and then the set of traffic lights at the junction with A5036 (Church Rod) you will come to a roundabout. Your satnav may ask you to use the third exit at this roundabout. Please use the second exit, which will bring you straight to the church."
