Accessibility:

A short distance west, behind Esplanade Road on Garfield Road, is a multi-storey car park with blue badge parking. At the pier, disabled toilets are directly opposite on the south side of Eastern Esplanade. Access to the pier is along a wide ramp. There is full wheelchair access along the length of the pier.

Brief Description:

Paignton Pier, which opened in 1879, was designed by Victorian architect George Souden Bridgman. The pier was extensively renovated during the 1980’s following decades of deterioration, including a fire in 1919 when the pier head was destroyed. The pier and immediate area has many attractions including a traditional amusement arcade and children’s play area.

Directions:

Travelling into Paignton south on the A380 South Devon Highway, follow the road onto Hamelin Way south until reaching the round-a-bout. Take the first exit east into Preston Down Road. Continue along Preston Down Road as it merges into Sandringham Gardens and Upper Headland Park Road. Follow Headland Park Road until the crossroads and go straight across onto Seaway Road B3201. Follow the B3201 along the coast and the pier will be visible seaward on the east side of the road.

There are many places to eat along the pier, including ice creams, sea food and local Paignton rock. The Pier Café provides snacks and main meals. Esplanade Road is lined with guest houses and hotels. Further into Paignton is its busy shopping area.
