Brief Description:

The main feature of Pembroke town is Pembroke Castle. Set on the banks of the Pembroke River and Mill Pond, with many things to do and many tourist attractions.

The town dates back to the 11th century to when an earth and timber castle was constructed by Arnulf of Mongomery on the banks of the Pembroke River. This was eventually replaced by a stone castle in the 13th Century which became the birthplace of Henry Tudor.

The town grew through the Middle Ages with the growth of the woollen trade and then again with the arrival of the railway in 1863.

Because of this history there are a number of historic buildings and complexes to see. The town is also a good base for the large number of leisure complexes and activities available in southern Pembrokeshire.
