Brief description

"Theatre, arts and conference venue serving Porthcawl, Bridgend County and beyond" https://www.facebook.com/Grand.Pavilion.Porthcawl/?locale=en_GB and Grand Pavilion Technical Specifications

2023: "The Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl’s much-loved seafront theatre has been awarded £18m Levelling Up Funding from the UK Government, as a result of Bridgend County Borough Council, working in close partnership with Awen Cultural Trust, demonstrating that the investment would make a visible positive difference to the local area and supporting the creative economy of the region.

The funding will be used to enhance and redevelop the Grade II listed building, which celebrated its 90th anniversary this year, including addressing the condition of its concrete structure, preserving its unique heritage whilst also meeting the needs and aspirations of the community for extended and improved arts, culture and heritage services.

The proposed new facilities include: new function spaces at the esplanade level; new rooftop function and café spaces offering panoramic sea views across the Bristol Channel; new studio theatre and ancillary facilities; increased and improved accessibility including new Changing Places toilet facilities; and new business incubation, workshop and office spaces at street level."

"The Grand Pavilion is an entertainment venue in PorthcawlBridgend County BoroughWales, opened in 1932. It has an octagonal dome and extensive frontage, and was originally intended as a Palm Court for hosting tea dances, balls and civic functions.

The Grand Pavilion hosts a variety of events throughout the year including live theatre, concerts, ballroom dancing, conferences, dances, and culminating in the ever-popular Christmas pantomime.

The Grand Pavilion is also a conference venue, and hosts civil wedding ceremonies, receptions and parties.

The main hall features a fully equipped stage, and has a theatre seating capacity of 643. The hall also boasts one of the finest sprung dance floors anywhere in South Wales. The octagonal floor is regularly used for ballroom dancing classes and tea dances.
