"There is a drop-off point for guests outside the entrance and wheelchair access to the ground floor. Unfortunately due to the building’s Grade II* listing, the first floor is only accessed via a steep set of stairs and is therefore not suitable for everyone.  Dogs are not allowed except guide dogs."

Brief description

"Revolution House offers visitors a friendly welcome and an introduction to the Revolution of 1688 which replaced James II with his daughter Mary and her Dutch husband William. This pretty thatched cottage in the village of Old Whittington hides a secret – it was part of a plot to overthrow the King!

In the dark year 1688, rumour and unrest muttered up and down the country. Three local noblemen, the Earl of Devonshire, the Earl of Danby and Mr John D’Arcy, met in secret. Sheltering from the rain in the Cock and Pynot Alehouse, they began to make their plans to overthrow King James II in favour of his daughter Mary and her Dutch husband, William of Orange..

The ground floor has a display of 17th Century country furniture. Find out more about the Revolution of 1688 on a short film at the House."
