The airport lies 6 miles south-east of Doncaster and 19 miles east of Sheffield."

"In June 2022, Wizz Air cut many of its routes from DSA, stating that DSA were "unable to guarantee the terms of its commercial agreement".[25] In July 2022 the airport's board said aviation activity at the site "may no longer be commercially viable" and that there would be a six-week consultation into the airport's future.[26] Peel L&P stated the airport had "never achieved the critical mass required to become profitable".[27]

The closure proposal drew strong local reaction, with an on-line petition established by local interest group Yorkshire Plane Spotters citing concerns over the loss of local employment opportunities, to the overall detriment of the region.[28]

In late August 2022, the consultation period was extended until 16 September, with the result of the consultation announced on 26 September.[29][30]"

"Doncaster Sheffield Airport is slap bang in the middle of the country. We’re served by some of the UK’s biggest road networks and with our new link road, Great Yorkshire Way at jct 3 on the M18, journey times have fallen even further. We’re also served by regular dedicated bus services to Doncaster and Sheffield and are only seven miles from Doncaster rail station."
