Accessibility:

Access is via three steps up from public footpath.  There is a an additional section of seating area to west of the cafe which has level access from the footpath.  Seating is available immediately outside the cafe but this is one step up and a relatively narrow space as can be seen in photos.  Further seating inside and flooring level once inside.

Brief description:

Saltwater Beach Cafe a short distance from the beaches at Chalkwell.  The Cafe provides a range of breakfasts, brunches and lunches along with ice creams and drinks.  It also has a limited range of goods for sale - see website for details.

Directions:

From the A13 travelling east from London towards Southend, turn south (right) immediately after Chalkwell Park travelling down Chalkwell Avenue, under the railway bridge until you reach the seafront.  Where the main road turns sharp east (left), turn to travel west (i.e. take a right) along the western section of Chalkwell Esplanade.  Saltwater Beach Cafe is at the far end of this section of Chalkwell Esplanade. Car parking (paid) is available on the south side of the Esplanade.

Opening Times:

The cafe is open all year round.  In the summer opening hours are normally 9.30-17.00 and in the winter 9.30-15.00.  Check on their Facebook page for any changes to opening hours.

The nearest public transport is Chalkwell railway station on the C2C line which runs from London Fenchurch Street to Southend-on-Sea.  As you exit the station turn east/right and immediately south (right again) onto the footbridge over the railway line and as you leave the access ramp of the footbridge, the beach is in front of you and the cafe is approx 100 yards to the east/left.  Steps down from the footbridge discharge immediately next the the cafe.  During July and August the number 68 open top bus runs from Leigh-on-Sea railway station and past Chalkwell station where you can alight for the cafe.

Amenities:

There are no toilet facilities for the public at the cafe but public toilets including disability toilet (radar key access) are close by and approximately 125 yards away.  Chalkwell beaches are a one-minute walk away.

The cafe owner does organise a number of events at the cafe ranging from a book club, to beach cleaning groups, beach safety talks by local coastguard and a walking club.  See website for full details.
