Accessibility

There is a free accessible parking space available for visitors with disabilities in the Scott Polar Research Institute's car park, via an entrance barrier. Please contact the Museum to book this space in advance. Alternatively, roadside parking outside the Museum is free for blue badge holders.

There is a small amount of limited-time parking outside the Museum.

Brief description

Museum, which is part of the University of Cambridge, depicts the Polar Exhibition in 1912 by Captain Scott and his Team.

2025: "The Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) is a centre for research into the polar regions and glaciology worldwide. It is a sub-department of the Department of Geography in the University of Cambridge, located on Lensfield Road in the south of Cambridge.

SPRI was founded by Frank Debenham in 1920 as the national memorial to Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his companions, who died on their return journey from the South Pole in 1912. It investigates issues relevant to the Arctic and Antarctic in the environmental sciencessocial sciences and humanities. The institute is home to the Polar Museum and has some 60 personnel, consisting of academic, library and support staff plus postgraduate students, associates and fellows attached to research programmes.[1] The institute also hosts the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research. "

Directions

Leave the A14 at Junction 35 and take the A1303 towards Cambridge.

Remain on this road and at the roundabout in Barnwell continue straight on, joining the A1134 signposted for the City centre.

At the big roundabout as you enter the City keep left on to the A603, East Road.

Just after passing the Playing Fields on the right hand side, cross over the major road junction with the A1307, and the Nuseum is immediately after the church and Primary School on the left hand side.

The nearest car park can be found on the A603 opposite the Playing Fields.
