Accessibility:
Most areas of Shaw house are accessible to those with limited mobility. It also has dedicated parking and toilet facilities for people with disabilities. Assistance dogs are permitted inside Shaw House. A hearing loop is available at reception, if a delegate with hearing aids requires the sound system.
2026: "Shaw House is accessible for those with limited mobility and wheelchair users and we have lift access to all floors. There are dedicated toilet facilities for people with disabilities within the House. Please ask at Reception for directions when you arrive.
For Blue Badge parking, please drive through our main historic gates and turn right in front of the House. Three disabled bays are located on the right and are marked out. Please display your badge in the vehicle.
Visitors are asked to please leave push chairs on the ground floor. Hip seats suitable for children from 6 months to 3 years are available from reception. For families visiting the Register Office on the second floor prams are permitted.
Essential companion tickets are free of charge alongside a paying visitor if required.
Please note: we do not have storage on site for rucksacks, bags, or luggage. Please keep all such belongings with you throughout your visit."
Brief description:
The manor house of Shaw, Shaw House was built by the wealthy cloth merchant, Thomas Dolman, and completed in 1581. It is famous for its reputation as King Charles I's headquarters during the Second Battle of Newbury. Visitors can now enjoy a programme of events and activities whilst wandering the house and spending time in the exhibitions and family corner. The House is open most weekends and some school holidays.

Directions:
Follow the A339 through Newbury and come off at the B4009 exit, you will come to a roundabout that leads onto another roundabout, take the first exit on both leading to church road, follow the signs for Shaw House. We have ample, free parking available just a short stroll from the House. Cycle parking is available on site.

"You will find our Gift Shop adjacent to the Reception. We stock a variety of Shaw House gifts, as well as locally-produced homeware, jewellery and ceramics. Clothing, accessories, toys and cards are also available to purchase – plenty to buy as gifts for someone special or a treat for yourself!

Café
Shaw House café is located in what used to be the kitchen. The old fireplace and smoke jack can still be seen! Choose from a range of delicious sandwiches, homemade cakes, snacks and speciality hot drinks. Visitors are also welcome to picnic in the grounds."

Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy the Grade II listed lawns, while our younger visitors can explore the grounds, play amongst the 16th century trees and, if that doesn’t keep them entertained, we also provide giant garden games in the warmer months.
Hip seats, suitable for children from 6 months to 3 years, are available while you explore the House, (please leave pushchairs on the ground floor).
We provide 'welcome leaflets' which can be collected from Reception on arrival. The leaflets are available in English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish. We are hoping to have more translations available in the future, so please check with our Reception team.
Please note: The gates of Shaw House car park are locked once all visitors have left the House. No parking is permitted overnight.".
