Accessibility:

Most areas of Shaw house are accessible to those with limited mobility. It also has dedicated parking and toilet facilities for people with disabilities. Assistance dogs are permitted inside Shaw House. A hearing loop is available at reception, if a delegate with hearing aids requires the sound system.

Brief description:

The manor house of Shaw, Shaw House was built by the wealthy cloth merchant, Thomas Dolman, and completed in 1581. It is famous for its reputation as King Charles I's headquarters during the Second Battle of Newbury. Visitors can now enjoy a programme of events and activities whilst wandering the house and spending time in the exhibitions and family corner. The House is open most weekends and some school holidays.

Directions:

Follow the A339 through Newbury and come off at the B4009 exit, you will come to a roundabout that leads onto another roundabout, take the first exit on both leading to church road, follow the signs for Shaw House.

Opening Times:

Shaw House is open to the public every weekend between 10 February  - 30 September 2018, 11am – 4pm. Also, throughout the school holidays (except the Christmas holidays) 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday. FREE admission on its standard public entry. Charges will remain for activities and special events (these include Family Activity Days, theatre, cinema and fairs).

Shaw House is ideally situated in tranquil surroundings on the north side of Newbury, within an hour’s journey of London, Bristol, Oxford and the South Coast, and just five minutes from the M4/A34 junction.
