Type of Hospital: Community Hospital

Brief Description:

"Singleton Hospital, overlooking Swansea Bay, hosts a range of services including acute assessment, acute medicine and care of the elderly. It has about 330 beds and provides a regional, consultant-led maternity unit and neonatal intensive care. Other services include ophthalmology, ear nose and throat, and genito-urinary services.

The South West Wales Cancer Institute and a separate chemotherapy day unit are also at Singleton, along with an iconic Maggie's Centre located in its grounds. Bone marrow transplants are carried out by the haematology service.

Singleton Hospital will be undergoing significant change over the next few years. The ultimate vision is Singleton playing a key part as an innovative health campus offering 21st century services, care and values. An important part of this is the continuing development of ambulatory care – services where patients get faster access to treatment without needing overnight stays.

Please be aware that the Minor Injury Unit at Singleton Hospital has now closed. Care for minor injuries is available at the Minor Injury Unit at Neath Port Talbot Hospital. Singleton hospital does not have a minor injuries unit and hasn’t had one for some years now. This hospital does not have a walk in service and does not admit patients directly without discussion with a GP first. Furthermore, Singleton does not have a trauma assessment facility, and any form of trauma is managed in Morriston Hospital A&E."

"COVID-19 VISITING UPDATE: Please note our rules regarding hospital visits have changed. For the latest guidance on our visiting regulations, please visit this page: https://sbuhb.nhs.wales/coronavirus-covid-19/information/visiting-updates/

We do have free WiFi on all our sites, so if you can, please 'virtual visit' your relative or friend on their smartphone or tablet on What'sApp, FaceTime, Messenger etc

To help us manage the surge of potential telephone calls our wards may now receive from relatives checking on patients, we are asking patients to nominate a single member of their family (or carer) to be the designated person to contact us.

If your loved one is not well enough or able to designate someone, we will discuss this with a family member.

Having a designated person will avoid several members of the same family ringing the ward.

Thank you for your cooperation."
