Brief description
Medieval house with later work with gardens at the gateway to the Lake District.Garden includes a pond, lake, a national collection of hardy ferns and a superb limestone rock garden.
Still lived in by the Strickland family.
The exceptional wood panelling returned here in 1999 from the Victoria and Albert Museum. The estate includes limestone pasture, orchards and semi-natural woodland.

From the M6, exit at junction 36, then take A590 towards Kendal, take Barrow-in-Furness turning and follow brown signs. Parking: 250 yards from the main entrance

Sizergh Castle is just a short bus ride or bike ride from Kendal Train Station (5 miles).By busFrom Kendal, take the 555, 755, 551 or 530 to the Brettagh Holt roundabout near Sedgewick. For all bus timetables visit www.golakes.co.uk/bybus. Once at Brettagh Holt, take care crossing this busy road and use the crossing place. Continue walking in the direct of the bus, and then turn right down Nannypie Lane following the brown sign to Sizergh Castle. Take care on this country lane. Walk past the Strickland Arms pub and continue along the driveway to Sizergh Castle (20 mins walk).
