"The name of this project is Sri Lakshmi Gaushala - where the goddess of fortune resides giving protection to cows.

Hi, my name is Gaura and I have been involved in the protection and well being of cows for around 25 years and running a  cow sanctuary for 15 years.

Early on I wanted to do more, asking myself how can I make a real difference? I wanted to help the cows and stop them being needlessly slaughtered when they were deemed to be of no use to anyone.  I had little money and no land so I asked friends for help. One kindly agreed that I could keep cows on their land, so after buying 2 calves the sanctuary was born.

Over time the herd grew to 6 cows, we moved to another location and then moved again until we finally arrived at our present location now caring for 7 cows. Over the years cows have died of old age and new come and gone. Still we have no land of our own or a permanent residence for the cows. Currently we rent the land we occupy, building new sheds to give the cows some extra comfort.

Over the years my appreciation has grown and grown for the cows. These beautiful beings who emanate such love, gentleness and innocence have become my life. I hope the passion that drives me to help and care for them comes across as you browse this website.

CAN YOU HELP ME?

I care for the cows day to day, mainly on my own, which is both physically and financially demanding. My commitment to help and care for the cows has been my choice but my funds are limited and although I would gladly give everything I own to help them I do worry about the future.

The costs of the land rental, bedding, feed and vet bills soon add up. Along with the ongoing cost of building maintenance and alterations, it costs me around £600 to care for each cow per year.

I long to help more cows but at the moment it is all I can do to look after the ones I have and try to secure a future for them as best I can.

My dream is to one day have land for the cows which is their own. To be able to build sufficient sheds for them to be happy warm and dry in winter. To continue rescuing and caring for as many cows as possible.

So with this in mind I reach out to you for support. Please can you help me continue to provide care and shelter for the cows in anyway that you can, however big or small?"
