Brief description
St. Barnabas Church is a Grade II* listed building from the 1860s, designed by architect William Butterfield (1814-1900) in the Gothic revival style. William Butterfield - Wikipedia
"The Cooke Family of Beckley donated money for building the church, vicarage, and school."
The Chancel, Nave, North Aisle and West Belfry were designed by Butterfield and built using local yellow bricks with red and blue banding. Butterfield also designed the Font and Reredos.
"Frederick Preedy and A. Gibbs designed the stained-glass windows, whilst the Millennium Window - 'Son of Encouragement' was designed by Nicholas Mynheer."
"The Chair with a craved crown (to the right of the altar), was used by King Charles I before the Battle of Boarstall (1642-1946) and given to the church by Captain John Henderson. Hilda Henderson (daughter) designed and painted the World War One Memorial which shows portraits of the men."
