St Cadfan Church, Llangadfan, Welshpool, Powys, Wales. Grounds open daily. Free entry.
Details
Accessibility:
The entrance to the church yard is on a narrow lane next to a junction. Great care should be taken if parking here not to block the road. The entrance to the church yard is through a wrought iron gate with a tarmac path leading to a lychgate situated halfway through the church yard. The lychgate is cobbled and there is a very shallow step to negotiate. There is also a shallow (two inch) step into the porch of the church itself. The interior is largely flat and tiled with two steps into the chancel.
Brief Description:
The current St Cadfan's church building most likely dates from the 15th century with records of an even earlier church going back to 1254. It was restored in 1868 when most of the original fixtures and fittings were removed. The porch, vestry and bell turret are of 19th century construction.
Interestingly the lychgate is no longer the main entrance to the churchyard, being situated a good few metres inside the grounds following a westward extension to the site in the 19th century.
