Details
Accessibility:
The church is situated opposite Llanwrtyd Wells cemetery, which has a small car park, although there are no disability spaces. The gate to the graveyard is wide and the path to the door is compacted gravel and dirt. The door has a slight lip up into the church and the interior floor is flat and is laid to quarry tiles.
Brief Description:
The remote St David’s old church is a grade II listed building that was once the parish church for the village of Llanwrtyd, before the populous moved a mile down the road when the spa town of Llanwrtyd Wells was built.
The church is thought to be 14th or 15th century, although it was restored in 1861. There is a nave, a non-aligned chancel, a west bellcote and a south porch. The construction is rubble stone, mostly coarse sandstone, mudstones, shale and large worn pebbles, and the roof is slate with reconstituted clay tiles. There are metal cross finials to the porch and east end of the nave and the bellcote has concrete cappings with one bell with openings to the east and west.
