Brief description

St. Eata's Parish Church is set near to  the River Severn in the picturesque village of Atcham; on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, in Shropshire. The church is close to Attingham Park, a National Trust property.  St. Eata's Church is in the Anglican Diocese of Lichfield; its sister church is St. Giles' Anglican Church, Lichfield, Shrewsbury.

St. Eata's Church is a Grade 1-listed building in the Norman/ Gothic style. It is unique in being the only church in England dedicated to Saint Eata, a 7th Century Northumbrian priest and former Bishop of Hexham. A Church dedicated to St. Eata has been in Atcham since approximately the 8th Century.

The present church building dates back to about 1075 A.D. The walls include a number of re-used Roman stones which were originally from Wroxeter. The church's central Nave dates back to the late Saxon/early Norman period; the clock tower to the 12th Century and the Chancel to the 13th Century. A number of additions were made in the Middle Ages and restoration work  was carried out in the Victorian era.

St. Eata's has a fine church organ, which was modelled in miniature on the Great Organ of the the Temple Church  in London which unfortunately was destroyed by  bombing during the Blitz in World War II. St. Eata's has a ring of 6 bells in the clock tower.

The churchyard includes several Commonwealth War Graves of airmen who died during  World War II and a number of ancient gravestones.
