Brief description
Records show that there has been a church on this site since the 12th century. The present building dates back to 1853 and is Grade II listed. A simple locked Norman font on which a sculpted bird of prey rests to keep birds away inside the vestibule, dates to the 12th century. Crosses, a carved head and some window tracery are housed within the church. The church bells date back to the 1300s. Alhough little is known about the church beginnings, it was probably built as a place of worship for the estate workers. The church was donated to Kirkham Priory, before the Earls of Rutland acquired the land and eventually sold it to the Duncombe family in 1801.
